At one time, every one of us has been given a prescription for one thing or another. Looking at the prescription in our hand, we are struck with two things:

  2. a veritable plethora of little, confusing abbreviations

 

Well, the abbreviations employed by doctors and pharmacists are used for the very same reason anyone uses abbreviations: to conserve space and time.

qAM – EVERY MORNING

qOD – EVERY OTHER DAY

BID – TWICE A DAY
TID – THREE A DAY
QID – FOUR A DAY

TDS – 3 TIMES A DAY
